Hinterland consists of two new contemporary dance works that have the same initial point of departure: safe spaces. Nostos Collectives has commissioned guest choreographer Naishi Wang to create Free Steps, juxtaposing uniqueness amongst conformity in an effort to establish an identity at the expense of being marginalized. When and where can we truly find our own space? Meanwhile Emily Spearing’s this is where I’ll stay questions one’s ideals of familiarity and stability, and explores the acceptance of uncertainty for the purpose of self-growth.
Nostos Collectives Toronto celebrates their fifth season with a double bill of insightful works exploring “safe spaces” in world premieres by choreographer Emily Spearing and guest choreographer Naishi Wang!
