New Mainstage Season Announced

DanceWorks’ new season has been announced. Curator, Mimi Beck, shares:

“The 2016-17 Mainstage Series is ablaze with artistic collaborations! Commissions and co-productions are a vital part of the season, with dances created by professional dance artists whose work emerges from diverse points of view. The Mainstage offers five programs of contemporary dance, curated to communicate fresh concepts through movement artistry. Original music and sound design play a key role in the performances, transporting us beyond everyday life. The artists’ commentary on cultural themes and personal history are inspired, enlightened and high spirited.

The season features world premieres by three Toronto-based companies: tiger princess dance projects, Throwdown Collective and inDANCE. On tour from Vancouver are Wen Wei Dance, and in their Toronto debut, Radical System Art. The choreographers hail from Montreal, Vancouver, New York, Philadelphia and Beijing. Touching upon our human preoccupations, contradictions and vulnerability, the works create a delightful expedition – if only you’ll join us!”

THANK YOU TO OUR FUNDERS, SPONSORS & DONORS

Donors are the heart of our season.

We acknowledge the Toronto/Tkaronto as One Dish One Spoon Indigenous territory. We honour the ancestral caretakers of this land: the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, the Wendat and most recently the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation who have a Treaty relationship with Canada. We are grateful to have the opportunity to work in their community, on this territory. We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and future.
