Summer Reel VIDEO: Isha by Harikishan S Nair

Ardhanarishwara, in which Shiva and his female consort Parvati are held within the same body, is at the centre of this choreographic work based in the Indian dance forms of Kathak and Kuchipudi. Isha showcases the vastness of our Indian dance practices and how they collapse and collide with manifestations of energy beyond notions of sex and gender.

Harikishan S Nair (Director / Choreographer), through his artistic practice and training in three styles of Indian classical dance – Bharathanatyam, Kuchipudi and Mohiniyattam, explores contemporary themes of his own curiosity and new working methods in a process situated in his trainings, but expanding out of purely classical or repertoire works.

Donors are the heart of our season.

We acknowledge the Toronto/Tkaronto as One Dish One Spoon Indigenous territory. We honour the ancestral caretakers of this land: the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, the Wendat and most recently the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation who have a Treaty relationship with Canada. We are grateful to have the opportunity to work in their community, on this territory. We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and future.
