WHAT WE CARRY FORWARD
Welcome to DanceWorks’ 2026/27 season - an offering shaped by connection, continuity, and the evolving relationships that move artistic practice and presentation forward.
In curating this season, I have been thinking deeply about the people, histories, and creative exchanges that shape our community. Dance is an art form built through transmission, mentorship, collaboration, shared experience, cultural memory, and the ongoing dialogue between generations of artists and audiences.
This season reflects those ideas. The works gathered here explore what we carry with us, what we pass on, and how performance can hold both memory and possibility at the same time. They ask us to consider choreography not only as movement, but as a living practice of listening, witnessing, questioning, and gathering.
As we move toward our 50th Anniversary in 2027, this season also serves as a bridge: honouring the foundations that brought us here while looking toward the future we are building together.
Across theatres, studios, and shared spaces throughout the city, we invite you to join us for a season of bold artistry, conversation, and collective presence.
Thank you for being part of our story.

DanceWorks
The 2026/27 season explores the theme of INHERITANCE — what we leave behind, what remains with us, what we choose to carry forward, and what continues to shape us.
LABOUR
LABOUR is a frontal, physically demanding choreographic work performed by five firebrand, femme-identifying artists exploring endurance, collective presence, and persistence through a deliberately simple choreographic motif: a two-step that is repeated, shifted, and charged over time. LABOUR is presented with support from dance:made in/fait au canada Festival, and runs September 10-12, 2026 at The Theatre Centre.
INKOSI
Inkosi is a piece that explores the early life, imprisonment, and enduring legacy of Nelson Mandela through a fusion of traditional Southern African Movement and Contemporary Styles. Inkosi runs January 21-24, 2027 at Theatre Passe Muraille.
HUMAN
Performed by an all Asian Canadian cast, HUMAN is a dance-theatre work exploring memory, emotion, human connection, and the conscious choices that shape our lives. HUMAN runs April 15-17 and April 20-24, 2027 at The Terminal Theatre.
ARCHITECTURE OF VIOLENCE
A visceral collision of movement and story, Architecture of Violence confronts the tension between space and power through raw physicality and striking imagery. Architecture of Violence runs May 13-15, 2027 at The Terminal Theatre.
